Not “Check Box” Training: Real Practices in Resilience for Police
2025 Spring Public Safety Expo Recap

On April 17, 2025, public safety professionals from across Connecticut gathered at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville for the 2025 Spring Public Safety Expo, hosting Chief Jack Daly of the Southington Police Department.

A highlight of the day was the law enforcement training led by Dr. Jeff Thompson, titled "Not 'Check Box' Training: Real Practices in Resilience for Police." Sponsored by Critical Response Group, the session addressed the daily stress, anxiety, and unpredictability faced by police officers. Dr. Thompson emphasized that without the right tools and support, these pressures can take a serious toll on officers’ emotional, cognitive, and behavioral health.

His session focused on real-world strategies for building resilience, encouraging officers and leadership alike to adopt practical, ongoing wellness practices — not just one-time training.

Attendees also enjoyed exploring the exhibit hall, which featured the latest in public safety technology, services, and equipment. It offered a hands-on look at innovative tools that departments can use to improve operations and support their teams.

The expo additionally featured Legislative Day at EXPO 2025, providing a unique opportunity for attendees to meet directly with their State Representatives and discuss key issues impacting public safety.

With impactful training, engaging exhibits, and meaningful conversations, the 2025 Spring Public Safety Expo proved once again to be a must-attend event for Connecticut’s public safety community.
